A favourite of golfers trying to get out of sticky situations without sacrificing power or accuracy, hybrid golf clubs have been a mainstay in countless golfer’s golf bags since they exploded in popularity in the early 2000s.
If you’re a lefty, there are plenty of left-handed hybrids to choose from, produced by all the major brands, so you’ll always have a hybrid that’s preferable to you even if you're just starting out.
The perfect substitute for your long irons, left-handed hybrid golf clubs bridge the gap between the long irons - which are notoriously difficult to hit for some - and the fairway woods which take a big leap up in terms of power.
But don’t let their appearance fool you. Even though the clubheads look like condensed versions of fairway woods, they’re still capable of producing excellent power off the fairway, out of the rough, or even off the tee.
This size can come in handy, though. While long irons are hard to hit at the best of times, out of the rough they can be a nightmare. The same can be said for fairway woods, because their clubheads are simply too large to deal with longer grass. But with left-handed hybrids, you get the best of both worlds - a club with the correct loft to launch the ball cleanly and accurately, with a head that’s shaped in a way that can still cut through the rough for a powerful strike.
Available in a range of lofts to suit your playing styles, or to suit various scenarios you’ll run into on the course, left-hand hybrids could be the secret weapon in your bag you never knew you needed.

‘Need’ is a strong word. If you’re a left-handed golfer, you may have been getting by without using a hybrid for years, and there are other clubs in your bag you could use in similar scenarios as when you would use a hybrid. But if you want to give yourself the best combination of power and accuracy, and the ability to retain striking force when shooting out of the rough, without sacrificing a level aim, a left-handed hybrid club is an excellent choice. To find out more about these clubs and their uses, feel free to speak to a Clarkes expert today.
The only difference between lefty hybrid golf clubs and right-handed ones is their orientation. During manufacturing, the clubheads, shafts and grips are all orientated to swing from left to right - ideal for a left-handed stance. Aside from this, club manufacturers make no differences between the two. In fact, you can expect your left-handed hybrid club to be imbued with all the same golf technology and advantages as its right-handed counterpart, so you’ll never need to compromise off the tee, fairway or out of the rough.
Technically, you’re not allowed to carry more than three left-handed hybrid clubs in your bag at any given time on the golf course. However, most golfers who do carry hybrids will only ever use one, or two at the most, so this isn’t likely to be a concern. Two left-handed hybrids - a popular option - will give you multiple loft options to deal with different scenarios on the course, so you’ll be able to choose the best club for the task at hand.
It may feel as though left-handed hybrids aren’t as readily available as right-handed ones, and technically this is true. Remember, only around ten per cent of the world’s population is left-handed, as is ten per cent of the golfing population. This means there is far less of a demand for left-handed clubs compared to the alternative, leading to fewer production numbers, even from those with the largest selection. However, at Clarkes Golf, we have a fantastic selection of left-handed golf clubs - including left-handed hybrids. So if you’re a dedicated lefty player, you’ll always have the clubs you need when shopping at Clarkes.
